Living and Working

Content by Kyle Lowe

I use my house for more than just living since I live and work here. I have a studio in the back where I do a lot of wood working and people know to come right up to my door when they want to look and buy. I love being able to get up in the morning and head straight out to my shop and I only wish I’d thought to do this ten years ago! Working from home is the best and it makes me far less stressed than I used to be and I’m saving a ton of money on the commute. I went to www.HOMESECURITY101.COM when I first started this gig to protect all my stuff in the garage since it’s detached from the house. The last thing I wanted was neighborhood kids coming around and messing with my things! It’s actually been nice because I can tell when someone’s here to look at my stuff and I know my wife sure likes having me around the house more to fix things!

Giveaways Galore..

I spent my entire day entering giveaways and I expect that in a few days or weeks this is going to be me. I mean, I entered what seems like hundreds of giveaways today's (maybe I am exaggerating just a tad). So I better win at least a few of them, I don't expect to win too many of them because almost all the ones I entered had over 500 entries, but I do hope to win at least a few.

I have really become addicted to entering online giveaways. On days that I plan to sit here on the blog and do some posting or catching up I find that I get sucked into the giveaways instead. Today there were so many blog hop events, some with over 200 blogs. I promised myself that I would only do a few here and there, but of course the more links I hit the better the prizes got and I had to enter them all. My fingers are done for the day and will need to be rested, but I feel like I accomplished something and now I have something to look forward to, the winners announcements! Giveaways are addictive, they really are.

Who Loves Orange Soda?!

Kel loves orange soda!

I Miss Teen Nick 90's!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm still young and still considered a teen today, so if I was asked twenty years from now if I used to watch Teen Nick then most people would probably be referring to shows such as Victorious, iCarly, Sponge Bob, Zoey 101, or Degrassi, you know shows that are on Teen Nick today. BUT m I the only one who preferred the old Teen Nick, you know the one in the 90's with shows like All ThatKenan and Kel, DougHey Arnold, and of course the original Lizzie McGuire a.k.a Clarrisa. Who could forget Are You Afraid Of The Dark? or Goosebumps?! I miss those shows, apparently they've been brought back after high demand on both FaceBook and twitter, but I don't think my cable plan offers the network. I hope it does, in fact I'm going to check right now, but still what happened to Teen Nick?!

All That, was SNL for the kiddies, it was funny and gave it's stars like Amanda Bynes her show The Amanda Show, or comedy duo Kenan and Kel, well Kenan and Kel. Now in place if All That we have So Random.  : ( The show that spawned the genius that was Good Burger of the show that spawned the horror that is Socks and Sandals.

Doug was great, he was the underdog. He was the original underdog, him in his oddly colored world, with the oddest of names (Bluffington or Bloatsburg), we could all find solace and humor with Doug Funnie and his "journal", remember "it;s not a diary, it's a journal". ; )

Hey Arnold! Who could ever forget that crazy foot ball shaped headed kid. With his crazy disturbing grandparents, his Scottish kilt, and his stalker/bully the one eyebrowed Helga.

Ahhhh! It IS true! AND I was right I do NOT have that channel. NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! : , (

Looking for Calgary Apartment Rentals?

Finding a new place to live is not easy, especially when you do it the old-fashioned way by looking in the paper. When you are looking for Calgary Apartment Rentals there is no better site to use than RentCalgary.com.  They can make that search so much easier and faster too. You start off by choosing the area where you would like to live, choose what kind of dwelling, how many bedrooms and then your price range. RentCalgary.com will then show you a listing of properties that fall under your specifications. It can't get any easier than that.

When you find a listing that interests you, you will then be able to see all the really important details. The rent amount, deposit, features of the property and the date the property is available for rent. You will also be able to see pictures of the property which so important. This is what really differentiates this from finding a rental through the paper, you are actually able to see pictures of the outside and inside rooms so you get a much better idea and don't waste valuable time scouting places that end up being a nightmare. I love this and think it's so much faster than all the times I had to look for a place to live. It's easy and fast and you never go in blind, you already have all the info you need and that is one less hassle you have to deal with.

This post brought to you by your friends at RentCalgary.com.

~New Year's Eve~

Wow! Now that is an all star cast. I remember Valentines Day having a huge cast filled with a few A-listers but mostly B-listers, being released not that long ago. I also remember it getting bad reviews, it was basically just another cheesy romantic comedy. But considering the cast of this film which seems to be mostly A-list big wigs I'm hoping it's not so bad. I mean if it attracted Halle Berry, Robert De Niro, Michelle Pheiffer, Josh Duhamel, Sofia Veragara, Sarah Jessica Parker, Ashton Kutcher, Hilary Swank, Julie Andrews, Lea Michele, Zac Efron, and so many MANY more, it can't be that bad, right?

A Nice Day & Some Nice Art!

A nice breezy day today! Yay! It always nice when the swamp cooler is unnecessary, and it spares me the headache that the swamp cooler causes. While just searching the web, I found a whole bunch of really cool photographs by Tyler Shields. I think I may just love him, his pictures are all very unique and very dark hints to them and some are just plain gorgeous. Alot of his pictures include quite a few Hollywood A-Lister's; Lindsay Lohan, Dianna Agron, Josh Hutcherson, and many more. If you love art, check out his blog, it's all just incredible. Here are just a few of my favorites...

One of his latest collision pieces...

One of his star wars related pics...

My favorite kind of pic, black and white, and beautiful...

Gay Marriage Officially Legal in New York!

Now that gay marriage is legal in New York, last Sunday over 800 weddings were performed for gays and lesbians from all over. It was a day full of love and acceptance for the men and women who in most states of the U.S, still to this day are not able to legally wed the ones they love. Some are saying that the fact that New York has officially legalized gay marriage,  that the only logical step would be for California to allow gay marriage next.  Personally though, I think we still may have quite a battle up ahead for that. Gay marriage was legal in California just last year, but enough people were opposed to it, that the law got overturned. If that was just last year, I highly doubt the opposed party will let it happen so easily. I do wish that it becomes legal here in California soon though, because then maybe if California and New York allows it, the rest of the U.S may just fall in line. Typically I'm all about marching to the beat of your own drum, and not being one of the sheep, but that would definitely be one heard I'd have no problem following.

Straight Talk --The No-Nonsense Cell Phone Company!

This post brought to you by Straight Talk. All opinions are 100% mine.

Straight Talk is my favorite no contract, no credit check and no surprise bills cell phone company. Why? Because for only $45 I get everything that I need in a cell phone, with unlimited calling, unlimited texting and unlimited picture messaging and web service. $45 you ask? YES! The Unlimited Monthly Service Plan is the one that I use, and I never--ever have to worry abut overages or extra charges of any kind. Every month I just get a new prepaid card and I am set for the entire month. I can call my mom every day to check on her, I can call a friend all the way on the East Coast and not worry about long distance fees.

Tracfone Phone

If you don't use your cell phone as much as I do or are looking for a more economical plan,The All You Need Plan is only $30 and that offers; 1000 minutes, 1000 texts and 30MB of web data. This plan is the one that my elderly mother uses and it's always enough of everything, plus she is saving so much money by not having to pay for services she does not need. She used to have a contract cell phone that cost more than double what she is paying now, but when I told her how much she would save with Straight Talk, it was hook, line and sinker,  and she has never gone back to her old service.

Whichever one of the two plans you choose imagine how much money you would save every single year. And you don't have to worry about the quality of service that Straight Talk offers. I have been using them for over 6 months and I am very happy. I also love the phones that are available, Smart phones, touch screen phones, full qwerty phones for those that love to text and also very simple phones that are easy to use for people like my mom.

Straight Talk really has everything you need and nothing you don't. For more info visit their site or watch the video below to hear from real customers.

Bath Time Faves From EdenFantasys.

Sex toys - EdenFantasys adult toys store

I really love the assortment of fun items that you can find at EdenFantasys. There is never a time that I don't go in and find at least a few items that I must try out next. Right now the items that I am really loving are the ones that can turn a regular every day bath into a sensual bath time experience. Taking a nice soothing bath at the end of a long day is always one of my favorite things to do, I don't even get to do it that often because life is so hectic but when I do I love to make that bath a special time and these products are perfect.

I love the sea shell scoop and have read that the bath water actually turns blue! I can't wait for this to come back in stock so I can order one for myself. I might want to turn into a mermaid and never come out.

The soap petals are really very cute. These would make a nice treat for bath time and I do love the look. It's very romantic! I already have some candles from my last order so these would finish of the soothing and sensuous bath time ambiance that I so love.

There is always something new happening at EdenFantasys and there are always new products to try out and love. What are your favorite items from EdenFantasys?

A Special Zenni Optical Mention on Time Magazine.

This post brought to you by Zenni Optical. All opinions are 100% mine.

Zenni Optical

My sister has worn glasses for years now and one of her biggest complaints is the expense of having to get a new set every two years. After looking at a pricing for some frames at one of her local eye shops and then looking at the selection and prices at  Zenni Optical  I had to show her and ask her why she hadn’t switched over to them yet. At  Zenni Optical you can get a pair of really cool glasses like the ones below for under $30. Looking at this pair I can tell they are very similar to the ones she wears now but I know she paid a whole lot more than that.

440721 Full Rim Acetate Frames with Designer Temples

I think that no matter how much money you have, it’s not necessary to spend so much on eye glasses, not when there is Zenni Optical. Their prices and service are so low that they were mentioned in Time Magazine…read this and tell me if this reader is not right on the ball.

Time magazine recently featured an article titled “Eyes on the Price” in their July 4, 2011 issue in which a Time Magazine editor, Bill Saporito, discussed that he paid an amazing $1,000 for a single pair of eyeglasses...yes just one pair! In response to this article, one reader wrote in the following response that mentioned Zenni Optical:

Hey, Bill, Can You Read This?
Please tell me editor Bill Saporito is receiving mental-health treatment, because he is insane for spending $1,000 on a single pair of glasses. I buy glasses from Zenni Optical, an online site. It’s $20 for a complete set at my doorstep, shipping included.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians

Keeping Up With The Kardashians, has been a constant in my home since the show first started airing in 2007. At first I kind of thought the girls were just more heiress party girls, like Paris Hilton or Nichole Richie but after watching five seasons and now moving into their sixth, I honestly think these girls are some of the best role models for younger girls. Sure one of the only reasons they became famous was because Kim had a sex tape released but what she does in her private love life is no one else's concern, she didn't release it, but she did take advantage and made her self something off of it. What else could she do, the damage had been done?! The media found out what they could during her initial 15 minutes of fame, found out about their father being the lawyer on the O.J Simpson trial, found out their stepfather was an Olympic gold medalist, and found out she had two crazy sisters and the E! network, turned them into something huge. They are some of the most recognizable media figures today. I even think they've matured some through the show, in the beginning they did kind of just seem like dumb party girls, but I wouldn't call turning themselves into a brand, dumb. It was smart, and now their on everything. Their making the most of their time at the top, by coming out with  as many products as possible, and airing all their personal drama for the world to see on t.v every Sunday on the E! network. There are two things I dislike about the show, and one would be mama Kris Jenner...

Am I the only person who watches this, and just wonders how not only is she still married but why don't Khloe and Kourtney hate her?! I mean she obviously favors Kim above her other children, she even got a face lift just for Kim's wedding, why not for Khloe's? It may not even be that she favors Kim, she just prefers the kid who brings in the most cash. Also she is horrible to her husband, she treats him like an assistant, and after watchign that last episode where she said she wanted to change her last name back to Kardashian, I mean WOW, that was the most insensitive thing anyone could have done. I mean she divorced her first husband and remarried, she has no claim to the Kardashian name anymore. And to find out Bruce wasn't even in the family hall of pictures and he had no pictures in her office like her first husband does, how messed up is that?! This is one of the few reasons that, despite her brash and sometimes crude behavior, I really like Khloe. She pointed all that out to her mother, and voices what most people would never say to their mother. She called her a groupie, which is what Kris seems to be. I can be fair and say that the girls probably wouldn't have their empire without her though. The second thing I dislike, Robert Kardashian...

That boy is just plain lazy, all he does is live off of his sisters. I honestly can't even believe Khloe gives him an allowance. But I guess, why does he need to be driven at all, when he can just live off his family name. Jeez! Someone needs to smack some sense into that boy!

Despite a lazy brother and sometimes unfair mother, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, has and still is one of my favorite reality shows. I can always tune into whenever I need a good laugh since these girls always seem like they are up to something nuts. You gotta love them!

A Break In Weather!

It seem's the big guy upstairs has given us a break from this triple digit heat. All week long the weather has been a dream, nice cool eighty degree days with no need for air conditioning, and no need to stay indoors until 7 p.m, just to avoid a heat stroke. I've already seen that the humid heat I just experienced last week that leaves you feeling sticky and just plain gross is set to return next week, but until then I plan to enjoy these last few days of cool and perfect weather. Even if I am just spending my days sitting indoors watching season 3 reruns of Grey's Anatomy. Everyone needs a lazy day, every once in a while. I just plan on letting everyday be my lazy day... well, for as long as I can get away with it. ;-)

A Favorite Mystery Show

Pretty Little Liars is a relatively new show airing on ABC Family, and based on a series of books. It' centers around four best friends; artsy Aria, athletic Emily, book smart perfectionist Spencer, shop lifting "it girl" Hanna, and the secret that has a mysterious stalker, known as 'A', blackmailing them. The girls had secrets hidden from their parents, a secret that could land them all in jail, questions about their sexuality, nasty habit's of stealing, and relationships with people they should never have been involved with. The show is currently in it's second season, and is only getting better. It seems like more people then we could have ever imagined are involved in this plot to harm the girls and now everybody is a suspect. You can watch the girls try to unmask the mysterious A, while trying keep all their lies being unfolded.

I'm not gonna lie, I was very reluctant to watch this show, mostly because of the fact that I've never cared much for ABC Family's original shows. They're too wholesome, and try too hard to be inspirational TV, so they've never held my interest. But Pretty Little Liars, was addictive, interesting, and intriguing from the start. It wasn't a show about "all american teens" with "real life problems", acted out in completely unrealistic situations, like The Secret Life Of An American Teenager, or Greek. Pretty Little Liars is fun, mysterious and nail biting suspense, all while being appropriate for a young audience. I will be watching until the end. :-)

Baby Necessities- The Essentials

Nothing prepares you for the journey that is mother hood, and if you are a first time expecting mommy then nothing can really prepare you for all the things you have to buy for a baby (ie. onesie, swing, stroller, baby sling, diapers and so much more). Really the mind boggles at thinking of the layette and all the new baby items that have been popping up in the last years. When I had my kids, things were simpler and not quite as fancy, but in todays world there is a whole brand new set of must have items you have to buy, because if you don't buy them you will get a whole guilt trip about not providing your child with everything that it needs.

Still, if you are a two time mommy like myself then you probably will stick to buying just the necessities for baby. It was only for my first that I went completely nuts and brought everything under the sun. For my second baby, I even used some of her sisters things that were in good shape and made sure she just had the bare essentials like; burp cloths, baby bath towel, baby bibs, a diaper bag, bottles and a really nice stroller of her own, that I did not recycle. In the end my baby didn't even notice that she didn't have all the bells and whistles that her sister had, all she cared about was that she was loved.

Winnie The Pooh!

image
Winnie The Pooh, may honestly be the most adorable cartoon character ever created! I've always been a big fan of his, and I really do think that no matter how old I get, I will always be a big fan. He's just too darn cute to resist. :-) I was really surprised when I heard they were bringing Pooh, and his friends back for a big screen movie. It feels like it's been forever since we've seen them, and I'm really excited!

I always loved his and his friends tiny catch phrases, like; 'there's a rumbly in my tumbly", "oh, d-d-dear", "t-t-f-n, ta ta for now", "oh bother", I think they may just have the best catch phrases in history. I miss the whole gang, and  know I'm a little too old for them, but hey these characters get in your heart and never leave and I know I'm not the only person who cannot resist their charm. Christopher Robin, was the luckiest kid in the world, in my opinion. Getting to play with Piglet, Tigger, Owl, Kanga, Roo, Rabit, and Eeyore. Aww Eeyore,  it always made me a little sad to see his house get broken. Piglet was always just so endearing, all stutters and insecure. Pooh always getting his head stuck in that honey jar. Owl, was always so wise. Tigger and his adventures, I loved how he would spell his name, "t-i-double g- er, Tigger". Rabbit had kind of always been my least favorite because I thought he was just too snooty, but it wouldn't be right without him. Now if only there was a way I could see the film, without being thought of as weird...

I know most other's would say the movie may look lame, and too much like a little kid movie, but I think that's what makes it so great. Their movies are young and innocent, like for just a little while you can go into the Hundred Acre Wood, and be a kid again. Just for a little while. I fully plan on converting all of nieces and nephews, who have been horribly deprived of this adorable and fun adventure into Winnie The Pooh fans.

I'm Craving Chinese!

I swear, it is completely unnatural for me to go over an entire month without Chinese food! It's like a crime. I typically get it at least once a month but I've been deprived. And I have what could quite possibly be the best Chinese food I have ever had, just a couple of blocks up the street from me. Unfortunately I have no car, and I'd rather be deprived of my favorite food then die of a heat stroke. So at six p.m I will be heading out to pick some food and even though it may still be hott, it will be less hott then it is now and the place closes early, so if I want Chinese I have no option. Beggar's can't be choosers! ;-)  My absolute favorite dish would be half and half of fried rice ad chow mien, and a side of teriyaki. I wish I could get it in those tiny containers that they have all over tv and in movies but I have yet to actually eat at a place where they offer those containers. I don't know why but it seems like it may be more fun to eat out of those, rather then the horrible, styrofoam containers I end up with. Why I need eating to be fun, I don't know either! :-)

Board Games!

Clue may just be one of the most complicated board games I have ever played. Maybe it's because it was the first time I have ever played, and the only reason I had ever even heard of Clue is because I'm a huge fan of the movie. But after only one move I was already ready to give up. I just came into possession of a modern version of this game, and with all the pieces and all the rules, I honestly have no idea how anyone has enough patience for the game. And I love board games, like LIFE has always been fun for me, I like Scrabble, Candyland, Operation, and a game I found just a few years ago and enjoyed was Don't Wake Daddy!. So this is definitely not me being biased and just hating board games. It could be that in my household it was just a bit too difficult to concentrate, with a bunch of kids jumping around begging to play, it makes it less fun. :-(

A Forever Family Favorite!

A show that I can watch over and over again no matter how outdated it may seem to my generation, is definitely Roseanne! A show about a working class, blue collar family, that uses humor to get by. I can honestly say this may be the only show in history to ever acuritely portrayed real families. The mom was not a size 2, beauty, the husband didn't always bring home the bacon, and the kids were in no way perfect or just constantly cute, everyone looked real and had real problems. From financial troubles, spousal abuse, child abuse, teen sex, teen marriage, live in boyfriends, and crazy grandmas.

Roseanne Barr and John Goodman, play heads of household, Roseanne and Dan Conner. Neither are the perfect, have every answer, parents we see on television now, these two were sometimes just as clueless as the kids themselves. Becky Conner, the eldest Conner kid, was smart and considered the golden child by her parents until she married her slacker boyfriend at the age of 17 and moved away from the family. She was portrayed by two actresses, Alicia Goranson originated the role, but was replaced by Sarah Chalke during the shows last four years.Sara Gilbert played dark and sarcastic Darlene Conner, is every parents worst nightmare. She started off as tom boy, progressed to a depressed and witty teen, later became the first Conner to leave for school, and ended being married and a mother. D.J was the typical only boy child, living in a household completely dominated by women, he was weird and kind of freaked everyone including his own family out.

My Favorite Character...

Portrayed brilliantly by Laurie Metcalf, quirky and loyal Aunt Jackie is the sister/aunt you can always depend on. She's the first one the kids would go to when they have some big news, and they need help taking to their mother  She has had numerous careers, boyfriends, random hookups, and the best one liners. This is definitely one of my favorite scenes...

(Not Mine!)

The show aired from 1988 to 1997, lasted nine seasons, and 221episodes. It still airs on TV Land, The Oxygen Network, and Nick at Nite. It was a favorite of my mothers, is a favorite of mine, and even every one of my siblings can watch this show and still laugh about all day. They really may just be the most realistic tv family ever, and I love watching them.

A Romantic Massage ...

Sex toys - EdenFantasys adult toys store

My boyfriend works really long hours and sometimes I like to treat him to a massage when he gets home after an especially tiring day. I was really pleased to find that EdenFantasys has a lot of items that can make that massage a lot more pleasurable and fun for both of us. And what a treat really it is to get to give him a massage with such wonderful products like this, Knead Me Massage Set which comes with the Afterglow massage candle and the Contour M massager.
This set is a perfect gift giving idea for a couple or for a friend and the really neat thing about it is that you will find yourself going to grab it a lot more than you expected because of the amazing smell of the candle wax and the massager make for a really wonderful and quite romantic experience. If you find that you need some help with your massage technique then you can also find some massage books that will help. I am thinking of ordering this copy so that I can hone my skills a bit more.

You can find both of these items at EdenFantasys, the adult online super store that has just about everything you could ever need for a wonderful and romantic night at home with your loved one. Visit them online and on facebook

Back to Work!

Oh it's Tuesday and for me and, it's back to work day. The dreaded day that comes after a long weekend holiday, that makes us forget about relaxing and having fun and reminds us of all our responsibilities. Thank goodness I was smart and did all the running around on Friday, I paid all of the bills and did the bank and grocery store run so at least I can relax a few hours this morning before going to work at three. Since I woke up a bit early I even have time to make some coffee and enjoy the news before the heat wave comes in and shortly after I have to rush out.

My cousin works at home from her computer and how I am jealous of her even more today than other days. She gets to get up in the morning, never at any set time just when she feels she needs to be on to catch some companies. Then she sets up at her desk in the sun room area of the house where she can see all the cars driving by and the garden. After a quick email check she sets about to fixing herself some very delicious coffee, and she always seems to have the best new flavors to try out. When she is done brewing she sits with her hot coffee, in her pajamas and works. It's true that she then spends most of the day on there, only taking breaks here and there, but she does not have to get dressed or leave the house. She makes money sitting from the comfort of her sun room and how I wish I could do the same. She always tells me she can teach me some of what she does, and most of it involves blogging, which is sort of already do but there never seems to be enough time for me to go over and take some lessons. But really, I would love to work from home and that is my goal.

Wishing You A Happy Holiday

My town is having it's annual 4th of July celebration. It's one of the neat things about living in a small country town, they really know how to celebrate holidays like today. There will be a live band, a ton of food and of course fireworks at night. We have got to head out in an hour to get a good spot near the band and then we can eat. Before the end of the night I am also planning on having a strawberry funnel cake topped with as much whipped cream as possible.

Because our town is so small there was a big fight this year to keep the festival open, the city council wanted to shutt it down because there is so little money. That means this is probably the last year that we will get to enjoy this really great holiday celebration and it really makes me sad. That just means we have to enjoy the day as much as possible and hope and pray that by next year we can raise enough money to have it again.
I hope where ever you are you are also able to enjoy the day.

Summer Favorites: Agua Fresca

One of my favorite summer time treats is agua fresca. Aguas frescas are sold in a few of the restaurants and markets around my area and during the summer they come out with my favorite flavors, watermelon and melon. Though they do have a lot of sugar they also have real fruit so it's a treat that I am willing to break my diet for anytime.

I see these jugs full of delicious agua fresca and I want to buy the entire thing to take home and enjoy, but I stick to a large cup which usually costs me around four or five dollars. I have tried recreating these fresh waters at home many times but no matter how I mix it, they never turn out as delicious as the ones I buy.

Agua de Sandia

Horchata

Agua De Jamaica

Agua de Melon

These are my favorite summer time drinks, what are yours?
