Changing a squirmy baby's diaper is no easy task. They wiggle too much and can cause you to break the diapers tabs, or put the diaper on incorrectly. I've always been very fortunate that my oldest niece and nephew were rather calm and never caused too much damage during changing time. Unfortunately my brand new baby nephew is not as calm and collected during changing time. He will literally wail like a banshee, kick his legs in every direction, and started swinging his little fists in the air. Finally, after several torturous hours of babysitting, I have mastered the art of changing a squirmy baby's dirty diaper. Here are some of tips and tricks I learned...
Create a distraction. When changing my nephews diaper, I find it makes things easier if I have a toy for the baby to focus on. Sometimes if I'm lucky and have another sister in the house I just have them sit there and coo at him while I take care of getting him out of his soiled diaper.
Have a pacifier on hand. If the distraction method does not work then you can always try a pacifier. I know that when ever I hear a baby screaming at the top of their lungs it tends to stress me to the point where I cannot put any diaper on correctly. A pacifier will quite the baby down. If your one of those unfortunate souls that have a baby that hates their pacifier, the pacifier trick should still work, for a few seconds at least. Remember your trying to get these diapers on quickly, and it tends to take babies a few seconds to realize what they have is a pacifier and not an actual bottle.
Have a changing area already setup. If you yourself have a baby, then this will most likely be your changing table, but if your like me and the baby is normally just a visitor then set one up before the baby arrives. I know my nephew typically shows up with a soiled diaper since the car seems to be his favorite restroom. All you really need is a blanket, some wipes, a few diapers, and your trusty distraction toy or their pacifier.
The last tip I have is to always make sure the diapers I am using are the new Huggies Little Movers Slip On Diapers. Made specifically for changing all your squirmy babies. All you have to do is slip it right on and the diaper has stop guards around the legs and waist to avoid leakage. The diaper does also have tabs, for those super soiled diapers that some babies can make.

Thanks,

I use a remote control. It keeps him on his back for the amount of time I need to get his diaper changed.
Love the tips.
